Discover what you didn’t know you were missing.

But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

1 Timothy 2:15

Why “Yalad”?

Yalad is a Hebrew word used in birth stories in the Bible. It has two meanings that describe the roles in our relationship beautifully: you, the mother, who will be giving birth, bringing forth a life God knit together in your womb; and me, the Traditional Birth Companion, who will journey with you, bringing wisdom, prayer, skills, and encouragement.

About Me

Hi! I’m Bethany Brown, your sister in Christ who is passionate about family and reproductive health. As I look back on my life, there were many hints setting me up for birth work. I read a book years ago that talked about living a life of availability and inconvenience—I can’t think of a better way to do that than waiting on God’s timing for a child to be born.

Midwifery has become too medical for my taste, and the doula training I took taught no useful skills for the home setting. Through Nidhi Seth I discovered physiological birth and Billie Harrigan. I will graduate from her Becoming a Traditional Birth Companion and the Trauma Informed Professional courses in 2024. I have studied vaginal breech birth, neonatal resuscitation, and shoulder dystocia.

I don’t know everything about birth, but I will spend my life learning about it. It really is an endless topic, and I want to serve you with excellence.

To expand my knowledge and helpfulness, I am working on my certification to become a Billings Ovulation Method Instructor. I’ve got you covered from fertility to parenting!

My Faith Beliefs

God is sovereign, we are not. He gave women the ability to bring life He created into the world. His timing is utterly perfect, and His will is for our good.

Jesus died to save us from our sins and as parents it is your job to raise your offspring to come to know him personally and to be a godly example to them.

We are to be living sacrifices to God, doing the work He has given us to do, with the help of the Spirit.

Prayer works. Miracles happen. Children are a gift.

My Birth Beliefs

In my experience, birth is a normal everyday activity that also happens to be a special and life-changing moment for the family who is gifted the responsibility of raising their child. I am honoured to witness these moments.

I have never been to a hospital birth, and, God willing, I never will. I was born at home myself, so home birth has always been normal in my eyes. I went into birth work because I had friends for whom neither the hospital nor midwives were an option (that and my mother read me pregnancy books as a toddler, so the seed was planted long ago). I discovered Traditional Birth Companions in my journey to become another option for families. I believe that God gave us our bodies to function as He designed them to, and that you certainly don't need anybody telling you how to give birth or causing fear and stress. Your body knows what it's doing, and it's fantastic if you have some understanding of that in addition.

You are the authority on your body and your baby (no one loves him or her more than you do but God) and you should be the one making decisions for your health that align with your beliefs and lifestyle and how you will raise this child.

I believe that babies should be welcomed to the world with gentleness and love.

  • Bethany was so helpful during my pregnancy. Making herself available and having a comforting presence. When it was time to give birth, I felt l had a younger sister at my side. Thank you Bethany for all you did for our little family. We are so grateful!

  • Bethany was a wonderful person to have as support during my post partum period. She is one of the hardest working people I have ever had the pleasure to work with and it gave me great comfort knowing that she was there to support and offer a helping hand. She was fantastic with my new baby. I highly recommend her services.

  • Bethany has been such a blessing for my family the last few months.

She was always pleasant, reliable, flexible, and eager to learn. She took the time to get to know my baby and my needs and was always patient with my requests. Though she is relatively new to this field of postpartum work, she was always willing to learn, and used a gentle and steadfast approach in caring for my son. While Bethany watched and cared for my baby, I was able to get some rest, do self-care, attend appointments, and even set up my private practice while on mat leave! I would highly recommend Bethany to anyone looking for her service and will be continuing to reach out to her to care for my kids. Thank you Bethany!
